Runners of all ages will soon lace up their running shoes and set their sights on the finish line for the Second Annual Boyertown Rotary 5 K Fall Frolic, sponsored by E. Kenneth Nyce Law Offices, LLC, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 13.
Not a runner? Take part in the 2 Mile Family Fun Walk on the designated stroller friendly walking course. Walkers will have the opportunity to participate in a “scavenger hunt” by identifying items along the route from clues given prior to the start.
Timed by Pretzel City Sports, the road course, which meanders about town, begins and ends at the Boyertown Community Park on South Madison Street. Registration and packet pick-up starts at 8 a.m. The 5K run begins at 9:00 am followed by the Family Fun Walk at 9:15 am. Trophies will be presented to the top overall male and female racer, with awards also given to the top two male and female finishers in each of the following age groups: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+ years. A prize will be awarded to the first walker(s) completing the scavenger hunt.
“We had close to 100 runners last year and it would be great if we could double the number of racers this year.” says Dawn Hydock, one of the Rotarians coordinating the event. “We had positive feedback about the course design last year so we know it is not a course that is too fast or difficult. Last year’s winning times were: male 17:33 female 21:49. It will be exciting to see if they can be beat.”
Runners and walkers may register online at www.pretzelcitysports.com or download a registration form at www.boyertownrotary.org. The cost to register before September 25th is $25 and includes a specially designed race t-shirt. After September 25th the cost increases to $30 per registrant with t-shirts given while supplies last. Family discounts are available. Race proceeds will support the Boyertown Rotary Club’s charitable service projects.
The fun does not end, however, after the racers have finished and the awards have been distributed. Enjoy food, pumpkin painting, scarecrow making and great music on two stages at the Turning Leaf Fall Festival sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Board beginning at 11:00 am and stroll on the newly paved trail installed by the Boyertown Rotary Club and the Boyertown Lions Club.
